What You'll Do & See

Beautiful vaulted ceilings in church. The stunning architecture and stained-glass windows are a given, but the best part of these churches are the stories of the people who built them. Struggling immigrants who gave more than they could afford to build something worthy of their faith. American-born Polish who returned to Europe to fight under Poland’s flag. And, how boulders pulled from the Grand River in the mid-1800s are still helping keep church walls strong.

Square details on ceiling of church. While the churches for each tour are determined by their availability, we often visit the Cathedral of St Andrew where the vaulted ceilings and towering spires are sure to impress even seasoned architecture admirers. St Mark’s Episcopal has a slightly more gothic style with its walls made from boulders dragged from the depths of the Grand River.

See these sights and much more on Grand Rapids’ only church tour.
