What You'll Do & See

Come, join us, and be part of Beer City USA and sample some of the finest craft beers with expert guidance from the brewery staff. As we walk between breweries, we share Grand Rapids’ 185-year brewing history, along with other unique stories.

A woman talks to guests in the brewery bar.Our tour visits three breweries on the tour, where we are greeted by the beer pros and taste award-winning brews, plus a better understanding of the production process. Sip your doppelbock lager sitting in an early 1900s German sausage factory, or try a unique dish using the craft beer that makes Grand Rapids famous.

As we walk, you will learn about the history that brought brewing to the city. Hear the backstories of German immigrants who took over the beer industry, and the Polish who helped keep them in business. We will also touch on the cultural differences between the east and west sides of the city and the recent changes to the west side where many of our breweries are located.

Private brewery tours(opens in a new tab) also explore outside the city, as Michigan continues to expand its brewery enterprise. Private tours also may include beer-related activities, such as cooking lessons with craft beer ingredients. Contact us for more details!

The Knickerbocker Brewpub, New Holland Brewery
This award-winning brewpub offers a taste of world traditions with a modern twist. New Holland creates unique flavors and explores traditional brewing methods. They also create award-winning spirits, sometimes mixing brew and distillery products in unique ways. Our favorite Knickerbocker host is the epitome of a Michigan beer guy who makes your tastings better whether you’re new or seasoned to the craft beer scene.

Jolly Pumpkin
The Jolly Pumpkin has become a household name synonymous with craft beers, with locations in Chicago and Detroit. This Northern Michigan based brewery is renowned for its sour brews and great pizza. If it’s your first time trying sour beer, our Jolly Pumpkin hosts are great at helping find the ones best suited to your tastes.

Harmony Hall
This Bavarian-style building was originally a sausage factory and they still pay homage to their roots by serving up some scrumptious sausage platters! Known as the ‘Beer Castle’, Harmony Brewing Company boasts a wide variety of craft brews so you’ll likely find more than one that tickles your taste buds.
